Rohit Dhawan (Senior Member, IEEE) received his B.E. in Computer Science and Engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology, India and M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Southern California (USC), Los Angeles.
He is an Engineering Leader and Architect with over a decade of experience building and scaling mission-critical financial infrastructure at Amazon. He leads the worldwide refunds payment processing platform, supporting billions of customers globally and operating at massive scale across regions.
Rohit has played a key role in designing and evolving core components of Amazon’s global payments ecosystem. His contributions include architecting Tier-1 distributed systems that handle trillions of dollars in annual disbursements and settlements, with strong guarantees around reliability, security, and regulatory compliance. He has also driven the development of reusable platform frameworks and integration models that enable faster, standardized expansion into new international markets.
His work has influenced how large-scale payment systems are designed for high throughput, fault tolerance, and operational excellence. In addition to his engineering leadership, Rohit actively mentors teams and contributes to advancing best practices in scalable system design.
His research and professional interests include large-scale distributed systems, payment infrastructure, and sustainable computing, particularly at the intersection of system design and environmental impact.
